“Yesterday (22nd July) at 09:15am, in Minami-ku, Saitama-Shi JR Minami Urawa station, a 30-year-old lady slipped into the gap between the train and the platform when boarding the Keihin Tohoku line. She was stuck at her waist.
About 40 passengers, both on the platform and from the train carriage, came out to help push the train away from the platform so as to rescue the lady. The lady was later brought to the hospital and was reported to have no significant injuries.
When the incident happened, the train staff made an announcement apologizing that the train has been delayed because someone got stuck in the platform gap. Instead of grudging or complaining about the delay during the rush hour, several train passengers voluntarily got off the train to help the train staff rescue the lady. Within moments, everyone got off their seat to join in the rescue.
The Keihin-Tohoku line went back into service within 8 minutes.”
What a vivid reminder of the urgency of the greater rescue Japan needs! And what a reminder of the grace- available in Christ. I think of at least one Gospel verse: “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5: 8). He came to our rescue while we were still sinners. His work is finished on the cross (John 19: 30). But the work of proclaiming the Gospel in Japan is far from finished. Japan still remains to be the 2nd largest unreached people group. 5 million people move into cities every month, and Tokyo is a major globally strategic city. Cities are filled with people who bear the image of God. Currently, there are 25 unchurched cities in Japan. And Jesus loves people in the cities. This picture is also a great reminder of how our united efforts can help advance the Gospel as we sense a greater urgency in our hearts. Jesus wants to rescues lives. He commanded:
“19. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20. teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matt. 28; 19, 20).
Partner with us: join us @ THE BRIDGE GOSPEL PROJECT.
Pray for The Bridge Live on August 3rd: an outreach to musicians in the heart of Tokyo. The new venue is located in Itabashi (literally means- plank bridge) at Oyama station (Oyama means= Big Mountain). Jesus said, “A city built on a hill cannot be hidden.” Our desire is to see a church birthed in the heart of Tokyo that would shine as a city within a city.
We can do this together as a team by pooling in our gifts and resources and prayers:-
“4. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5. and here are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6. and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.” (I Cor. 12).
Come serve with us. Pray for and with us.
